Perlite Technologies
Perlite is an amorphous
volcanic glass lava rock (SiO2) that has relatively high water content,
typically formed by the hydration of obsidian. Perlite has the unusual
characteristic of expanding and becoming porous when it is heated. It can
expand to as much as twenty times its original volume. Expanded when is
heated to 1600 degrees F (871 degrees C) and the water molecules trapped in the
mineral turn into vapor causing it to
expand. (simple like grain to
popcorn.) Before it is expanded, perlite is commonly gray, but can
also be green, brown, blue or red. After it has been heated, perlite is
typically light gray to white. .
Perlite in Horticulture :
Horticultural Perlite helps plants robust grow and improves soil structure. This inorganic mineral will produce healthier plants that require less labor and watering.
• Perlite provides aeration and drainage, yet retains and holds substantial amounts of water that it releases when needed.
• The water-holding ability of Perlite also increases the nutrient holding capacity when water-soluble fertilizers are used.
• Can be used by itself, mixed with topsoil or potting soil, or any other sterile media for drip or passive hydroponic systems.
• Lightweight Perlite does not crush fine stems or root systems, making it ideal for growing delicate plants such as lettuce.
• Chemically inert, does not deteriorate and has an essentially neutral pH.
• As Perlite is sterile, it is free of disease, weed seeds and insects.
• Nontoxic, safe and economical to use.
• Ideal For: Commercial and Hobby Hydroponic Growing, Container Growing, Raised Beds, Rooftop Gardening, Propagate Cuttings, Soil Mixes, Lawns, Gardens, Seed Starting, Shrubs, Potting House Plants, Water Conservation in Landscaping, Turf and Grass.

Perlite for Construction
Perlite is a versatile and sustainable mineral that is mined and processed with a negligible impact on the environment. And the green community recognizes perlite-enhanced products—like lightweight insulating concrete roof decks—as a high-performance solutions drawn from a natural material of nearly unlimited supply throughout the world.
Perlite plays a n important role in a wide variety of construction-related uses including: as an aggregate in lightweight insulating concrete and plaster; as a loose fill insulation material for concrete masonry blocks, cavity walls, in residential homes; and in a variety of specialty applications including fireproofing sprays, chimney fills, interstitial floors, acoustical sprays, etc.
